Sound as a guide for life
Extract from TF1's 1PM news broadcast on November 11, 2025. Writing from Anaïs Barth, recording from Mathieu Alonso, editing from Inès Wick. Guétali Production in partnership with Antenne Réunion and the Natural Marine Reserve of Réunion Island.
Seafaring animals are often guided by sound to navigate in their environment. In particular, tropical marine species in their juvenile stages are particularly sensitive to the rich and complex acoustic signature of coral reefs.
As reefs get deteriorated and bleached, the ecosystem is damaged and the complexity of the soundscape is reduced. At Reef Pulse, we recreate the soundscape of endangered coral reefs to help them to attract fish and corals.
